Experience
I have over thirteen years of experience in the accounting profession. My career began in the tax department of Grant Thornton, LLP, an international accounting firm. During this time, I acquired skills necessary to better serve my clients by researching and communicating the tax implications of business transactions in various industries including oil and gas, manufacturing, banking and insurance. I also prepared and reviewed income tax returns for many forms of legal entities including individuals, corporations (C & S), partnerships, LLCs and trusts.
My industry experience includes serving as a mid-level manager in both tax and financial accounting for Sonic Corporation, a publicly held operator and franchisee of the largest chain of drive-in restaurants in the United States. I began in the tax department where my primary responsibility was to manage the compliance and tax planning activities of corporate entities and company-owned stores. I also served as a manager in charge of the financial reporting for company-owned stores. My department regularly communicated with business partners and company executives to explain and analyze the details of financial information. During this time, I participated in a process improvement program designed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Company's accounting system.
I have also served as controller of a group of privately-held business entities operating in the construction, telecommunications, energy, and real estate industries. My responsibilities in this area expanded my skills beyond those of a traditional accountant. I have analyzed and proposed business opportunities while carrying out my primary role as the person in charge of tax and financial reporting.
